Heath Fritillary

Reference: BU117
Location: East Blean Woods, Kent
Gallery: Butterflies,

I’ve seen Heath Fritillary before in 2007 on Exmoor but my photos weren’t great and most of the individuals were very worn with it being late in their flight period. 10 years later I decided to try again but this time visited one of the woodland populations. East Blean Wood in Kent is a site which is manged for this butterfly which requires areas to be cleared by coppicing so that its food plant can grow. The butterflies were in huge numbers but I still needed to be patient as they rarely stopped flying.
