Bog Bush-cricket

Location: Wootton Coppice, New Forest
Gallery: Grasshoppers & Crickets,
One of the hardest insects I can remember to photograph. As soon as you approach, and assuming they see you coming (they usually do) they drop down deep into the heather or Bog Myrtle. Even if you are lucky enough to line one up then there is usually some grass stems in the way and the long legs also mean that getting everything in focus is very difficult. After many hours of trying I was lucky, this individual jumped clear and landed on an exposed branch and I managed to get the shot.
