Misty Stones

Reference: W3
Location: Stonehenge, Wiltshire
Gallery: Wiltshire,

The iconic stone monument was erected around 3000 BC and it is estimated that it required more than thirty million hours of labour to build. Speculation on the reason it was built range from human sacrifice to astronomy. A minor track lying to the west of the stones runs north-south providing a good viewpoint. A light frost lay on the grass and the morning mist hung in the distance behind the stones. I waited until the sun had just appeared and before lens flare would cause serious problems. A portrait aspect enabled me to include the wispy cirrus clouds at the point where the vivid dawn oranges gave way to the blues.
