Silver-washed Fritillary

Reference: BU115
Location: Kitt's Grave
Gallery: Butterflies,

An early emergence for one of Britain’s largest butterflies. In the heat, they were on the wing constantly occasionally gliding over a flower, looking like they would land, and then they were off again, quite frustrating. In the end, I did manage some images as they settled on bramble flowers. You can see the enlarged sex brands in the middle of the forewings marking this one as a male.
