Very cold air from the east (the Beast from the East) collided with a storm (Emma) from the south to generate huge amounts of snow. There had been carnage on the A31 overnight with hundreds of cars abandoning. I decided to head out to Mogshade Pond late the following morning. I would probably need snow chains and a 4x4 to get across the forest and so I headed down the A31 (by now clearer) parked in a layby and walked to Mogshade Pond from there.
