White-letter Hairstreak

Reference: BU130
Location: Littlehampton, West Sussex
Gallery: Butterflies,

A White-letter Hairstreak nectaring from bramble flowers. These butterflies spend most of their time in the tops of elm trees sipping sweet honeydew secretions from aphids. If you’re very lucky occasional individuals drop down to surrounding flowers to nectar although I’ve lost track of the number of hours I’ve waited around the bases of elm trees for a photo like this.
